NEW TRAIL ALERT! – Building Tres Piedras One Mile at a Time

Testing the new Aldo Leopold trail.

The Tres Piedras Ranger District of the Carson National Forest and TMBA teamed up to install the beginnings of the Aldo Leopold Interpretive trail on Saturday, October 10.   Eight volunteers from around Taos County descended on the forest and installed over a mile of NEW trail!

When combined with an existing access road, a 1.5 mile loop is rideable.   The trail will evolve with the forest as it recovers from thinning and fuel management projects. Various granite boulders dot the landscape and these will entice future trail users.

The volunteers began the day with a project description and review prior to setting out with McCleods to “rake and ride” the trail corridor as mapped out by the US Forest Service.

After a day of work the builders hopped on their bikes to ride in the new trail. This is an exciting addition to our local trail community and it bodes well for future partnerships with local land managers. – Spencer Bushnell
