As we approach the end of winter and the onset of Spring, Horse Thief starts clearing of snow. On Wednesday, we were able to complete the entire loop, with only a couple of sections of walk-able snow. If you ride early, getting off the trail by 10:00 am, the ground is generally frozen. However, three quarters of the trail was completely dry. A few more days of no precipitation and most of the trail might be ride-able anytime of the day.
We rode the trail counter-clockwise, and had to walk the up-hill North facing slopes, including the s-curves or dollar sign. We did about five minutes of walking total.
Remember: RIDE DIRT, NOT MUD. If you’re leaving a track, turn back.
